HESA Trailriding event
HESA has partnered with Alberta Abilities Lodges and the Canadian Paraplegic Association (Canada) for a trail riding event to be held on Monday, January 23rd from 4:00 - 7:00pm in Emily Murphy Park.

Essentially, we are being joined by these individuals and their families and/or aids and we will spend about an hour walking with them along the trails in Emily Murphy Park. Alberta Abilities Lodges is providing the sleds as wheelchairs cannot navigate the paths so we carry the sleds with the individuals in them. Snacks will be provided by the nutrition and food science students association.

We are looking for volunteers to help us take these individuals for a winter trailride. If you're interested, contact HESA.

Macgregor Smith Speaking Competition and GoAg Event
Each year, the Ag Club hosts the MacGregor Smith Speaking Competition as part of ALES Week. This year, the competition will be held on January 25th at 5:30pm in ETLC E2-100

We have decided to try something new this year. It's a presentation type called Pecha Kucha ...check this out for more info:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fils7clg6iU.  During a Pecha Kucha, each individual gives a presentation accompanied by 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds, for a total presentation length of 6 minutes 40 seconds. These constraints challenge presenters to clarify their ideas and match each thought with the perfect image.

Our overarching topic this year for ALES Week is "Keeping it Local". You can pick your own topic within this theme to speak about.

Prizes are $500 for the winner, $300 for the runner up, and $100 for the third place finisher

If you are interested in competing, please contact Amy Mayner at amayner@ualberta.ca with your name and topic by Jan 16th!

Farm Credit Canada is partnered with us this year in bringing a special guest speaker to present at the event. Farm Credit Canada has also donated an Apple iPad for one lucky attendee so please come out and watch even if you don't participate!
